Stop the killing, Reform the Police.
As a Nigerian living in Nigeria, the last few days have been a roller coaster of emotions and i believe I speak for a good number of youths when I say we are exhausted. We have been angry, dealt with losses and worst part dealt with the very people who have tried to manipulate us into fighting each other and turned a blind eye to our grief.
These are elected officers mean’t to serve us and ensure our safety, but the opposite has been the case for so long. The police have been shooting at us, framing us for all sorts from kidnapping to robbery and even murder.
However my generation has decided to stand up against the injustice in the system , some say we have no system which is true to a certain degree. There is so much work to be done and we have decided to fight for reforms from the bottom up.
The fight has only just begun against injustice, Police brutality, Bad governance, the absence of proper healthcare and many others. But today, our core purpose for marching and lending our voices in solidarity is to put an end to the profiling, torturing, and killing of young men & women in our country Nigeria.
This fight is so important to us all, regardless of our social class or political affiliations, as long as you are NIGERIAN , this is OUR FIGHT.
We believe in our collective voice, and we are saying #endsars #endswat #endpolicebrutality and finally #endbadgovernanceinNigeria. We are not leaving the streets till we see actionable steps being taken by the government in accordance to our 5 for 5 mandate.
Lastly, we need to do better for the sake of each other. We need to look after one another most importantly in this March for reforms and necessary changes, take pictures and make videos of the people around you during these protests because the forces we are up against will exploit any loopholes we leave behind.
The Reforms we desire will come but we have to double down on our efforts as young Nigerians , our collective voices are far more important than one voice. Now more than ever, we must brush aside our differences and knock down whatever stereotypes we have had in the past (the mistakes of our parents) because more unites us than divide us as a people.
